Phase I Completed - Process Moves Forward

On February 9, results from the Saco Bridge:2025 citizen focus groups, community meetings and surveys were presented to the City Council. Those results will now be used to develop a plan to help guide the City over the next decade. Among the key focus areas that the council drew from the results:
  • Resolving traffic issues;
  • Collaborating with other towns for savings;
  • Developing an energy savings program;
  • Expanding intermodal transportation.

Key priorities for investing funds included:
  • Maintaining infrastructure;
  • Creating a recreation destination by the turnpike;
  • Expanding the tax base and adding jobs;
  • High speed internet access downtown.

Request for Proposals: Replacement/Rehabilitation of Stone Arch Culvert on Simpson Road
The City of Saco, Maine will receive sealed Technical and Price Proposals for Design-Build engineering and construction services for the replacement or rehabilitation of the stone arch culvert on Simpson Road over Stackpole Creek. Proposals will be accepted until 1:30 pm local time on March 23, 2015.

Heavy snow loads on roofs: An Important Message from the Saco Fire and Code Enforcement Departments
Due to recent heavy snow there is a greater urgency to clear roofs of snow and ice that has accumulated.

Emergency Management Director urges citizens to prepare for winter weather
Above average snowfall, combined with below-normal temperatures have resulted in extremely dangerous conditions which can result in injury or loss of life and damage to property. The public needs to take preventive measures now to prepare and mitigate before the next storm arrives.

Saco Police Department to hold Citizen Police Academy
The Saco Police Department is pleased to announce it will be holding its fourth Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Academy will begin on February 25, 2015 and run nine weeks.

Attention contractors
Are you certified to work near water bodies? As of January 1st of 2013, work within 250 feet of any water body (the shoreland zone) is required to have a certified contractor on site. You can get the training you need to be certified.

Butterfly Survey
During the summer of 2013, volunteers for the Maine Butterfly Survey surveyed the butterfly population at the former city landfill on Foss Road. Found 47 species of butterflies. You can download the full report here.

Concrete, asphalt and oil disposal changes
There are new procedures for citizens wishing to dispose of concrete, rock, asphalt or waste oil at the Public Works Department.

Lower convenience fees for VISA and Mastercard payments of real estate property tax, personal property tax and sewer bills. You can also pay by e-check for only $3 per transaction. For more information, follow this link.
