Information Technology Department
The IT Department supports 12 departments spread across 7 geographic locations: City Hall, Fire Department, Parks and Recreation, Police Department, Public Works and Waste Water Treatment. The department services and maintains all servers (12 physical and 9 virtual), storage arrays, network hardware and client computing assets, (175 desktops and laptops; several thin clients) in the City (excluding schools) in addition to maintaining and servicing software packages used by the City.
The city is currently utilizing 9 application suites along with several other smaller department specific software packages. These software packages and suites can be organized into four categories; Public Safety, Land Management, Financial Management and Resource Management. With public safety being a mission critical entity, they consume a large portion of the environment. With the use of Computer-Aided Dispatch software, AVL, Records Management and other public safety software our Emergency Services can continue to provide top quality customer service. Other departments rely on GIS and GIS centric applications to compile their data needs. Many of these systems are running on a SQL 2005 farm providing greater reliability and durability.
Other responsibilities:
- Provide planning and implementation for department IT projects
- Install and service the security equipment around the City
- Install and service all data communications mediums including Fiber
- Provide helpdesk software for end users and trouble ticket tracking
- Break/fix support to end users for all technology hardware
- Work with vendors to cover other needed technology items.
USE OF RESOURCES
The IT department employs two full time employees (excluding schools) in FY09, FY08 and FY07 and uses .86% of the city's annual budget.
