Trash disposal
Household trash
Household trash should be placed in the green cart provided by the city and placed on the curb on the day of your scheduled pickup. More details about curbside trash collection may be found

Holiday pickup schedule
Recyclables
Cans, bottles, newsprint, cardboard and some plastics are recycled using the BLUE and BROWN carts. More information on this can be found on
our recycling page.
Rechargeable batteries
Rechargeable batteries may be recycled at boxes in City Hall and at the Transfer Station. For more information about rechargeable batteries,

Leaves
Are picked up by the city in the late fall. We will post pickup dates on the
Public Works home page
. Leaves must be placed in biodegradeable bags in order to be collected. Leaves and grass may also be brought to the city
transfer station
on Foss Road during normal operating hours at no cost.
Brush
Brush less than 3 inches in diameter may be brought to the
transfer station
. A permit is required. Saco residents are allowed to dispose of up to 3 cubic yards (free) in addition to the 3 yards on the permit.
Stumps
Stumps may be taken to Community Recycling in Scarborough. The current fee (8/07) is $20 per yard.
Bulky items
Bulky items (furniture, old wood, mattresses, etc may be brought to the city
transfer station
on Foss Road. A permit is required.
Large metal objects
Large metal objects such as appliances, bicycles, etc. may be brought to the
transfer station
. A permit is required.
Metals
Metal waste may also be brought to Industrial Metals in Arundel. Their telephone number is 985-4892.
Waste Oil
Waste oil may be left at the city's recycling center, 351 North Street, on the first full week in every month. Oil must be in clear plastic containers and be free of all contaminants. Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Old paint cans
Latex Paint is disposable in your regular trash if the paint has completely dried. You may allow the paint to dry by removing the lid and air drying, or by mixing in an absorbent material such as kitty litter. The cans are recyclable if clean of paint residue, but not the lids.
Electronic equipment, fluorescent lamps
Universal waste (wastes that contain mercury such as thermometers, fluorescent lamps, ballasts, computers, televisions and other electronics) must be taken to the
transfer station
.
