Elder housing under construction

In the area of affordable housing after years of cooperative efforts, two projects got under way.

AVESTA Housing has begun construction on 30 units of elder housing at Park North, north of the Cascade Road. AVESTA, formerly York Cumberland Housing, is the leading non-profit affordable housing provider in southern Maine. Maine State Housing Authority approved the application for funding support after two previous efforts.

Volunteers of America just got its building permit for a 31 unit 2-story elder complex adjacent to its Paul Hazelton Center on Main Street (behind Rite Aid). VOA is a national non-profit which has been active in Maine for many years.

The Biddeford Housing Authority, as authorized by the City Council, has begun to do all housing voucher administration in Saco for the Saco Housing Authority. This was done previously by AVESTA Housing
