Downtown Project Nears Completion

An electrical worker wires new street lights on Main Street in front of City Hall.
The Main Street-Pepperell Square Rehabilitation Project is in its final stages. New street lights are up. Final touches are being placed on new sidewalks. The last few trees are about to go in. Overhead wires are now disappearing from City Hall to the Saco River.

The planned grinding and repaving of Main Street will be completed in the spring. Main Street merchants have been extremely patient with the difficult work along the 200 year old street.

The $1.75 million project was paid for, in part, with a $500,000 grant from the state's Municipal Infrastructure Investment Trust Fund, with the remainder from the Saco Island-Main Street TIF district.
