Municipal inspections departments working cooperatively
In an effort to better educate builders, real estate brokers, developers, and apartment building owners, the Code Enforcement Departments of Saco, Biddeford and Kennebunk have been working cooperatively to present informative seminars on various topics. One such session was held on March 6 at the Saco Plaza Convention Center and was sponsored by Deering Lumber Co. This session was well attended by over 60 builders and contractors who heard about such subjects as fire blocking, vernal pool regulations, stair construction, and cutting & notching of joists and other structural members.

In addition, the Codes offices of Biddeford and Saco, in cooperation with the Biddeford Community Development Office and City Councilor Bob Mills have scheduled a Fair Housing Workshop for Biddeford and Saco Landlords on April 23 at Biddeford City Hall. This workshop will cover subjects such as rights of tenants and landlords, screening and evicting tenants, special needs and reasonable accommodation regulations and safety codes requirements for rental housing.

The Cities of Saco and Biddeford have a long-standing mutual aid agreement between Code Offices that allow inspectors from each city to cover for the other in case of vacation, absence or emergencies. We have developed and adopted the same model construction codes in an effort to streamline the regulations builders, electricians, plumbers, homeowners and businesses need to know to build safer and smarter.
