What's new on the website?
Below you'll find a list of recent additions to the City of Saco website, as well as some timely favorites:
- Time to think about gardening
With the weather warming and the rain subsiding (we hope), it's time to think about gardening. And if you haven't checked out the Saco Community Garden, you should - it's an amazing opportunity to get your hands dirty and to raise some food for yourself. Take a look
- Composters for sale
And if you're going to be gardening, then you'll need to improve your soil. There's no better way than through composting your kitchen and yard waste in a compost bin. Not only does composting help you generate great soil for your garden, but it reduces the amount of waste the city has to haul to Ecomaine. The composters cost $37.50 and can be purchased at the Foss Road transfer station.
- Got a project in the works?
If you're thinking about some home improvement projects this spring and summer, be sure to visit the Code Enforcement Office page. Not only can you find forms you need to apply for a building permit, but there are lots of handy tips on project planning, hiring a contractor and energy-efficient construction.
- Historic homes
Saco's Main Street is known for its historic homes. And now you can learn more about them through an online tool, John Haley's Saco. John Haley was a Saco historian who catalogued many of the city's significant homes. Information from his catalog is now available online, linked to a map of Main Street. Simply place your mouse over each building and you'll get quick identity of the building. Click on the building and you'll get much more.
