Demand for Fire and EMS Services increases; Fire Loss in Dollar Value Decreases

After conducting an exercise in Call Trending it has become clear that the demand for Fire and EMS services is on a steady rise in Saco, while the Fire Loss in Dollar Value appears to have decreased.

The Call Trending was conducted over a six-year period, using just the months of January through August as to allow current data from 2010.

The volume of total calls has risen by more than 250 in the study period. The spike in call volume for the year 2007 is directly related to the April "Patriots Day Storm".

Our EMS or Ambulance Calls are also on the path of a steady rise. On average, EMS Calls account for more than 70% of all of our calls for service.

While our call volume is increasing, we are also noticing a trend of decreasing Fire Loss in Dollar value. The sharp increase in 2009 is directly related to two arson fires in large multi-family buildings, on Deering Avenue and Bradley Street.
