Central Fire Station Construction on Schedule

The New Central Fire Station construction project is well under way and is currently on schedule due to the nice summer weather we've been having. The completion date is set for the first week of April, 2011.

Set for the third week of September the exterior part of the Geothermal heating and cooling System was completed, this entailed drilling ten wells at five hundred feet each and connecting all the exterior plumbing. The steel structure for the administration and the cement blocking for the apparatus bays have been completed. By the end of September, you should see the communication tower, the steel roof joists installed over the apparatus bay as well as the roofing started. At the beginning of October, all the exterior walls will be sprayed with a vapor barrier followed by 2" foam insulation and then the brick veneer will begin. The horses Heads were cast from the old station and will be installed by mid October. By the end of October the base coat for the hot top will be completed.

Pizzagalli goal is to have the building weather tight before cold weather sets in for the completion of the interior construction.

Just a reminder to all you parents with children, after some thirty plus years of having Santa arrived on Thanksgiving night this will be his last time at the Old Station. The Call Force is hoping to raise money to supply new lighting and decorations for the new station.

For weekly updates and photos on the progress of the station check out the City's web site under the Fire Departments tab.
